Muralla Medieval
ENG: The medieval walls are located on Calle de la Orden de Montesa and are generally in good condition.
These, which are believed to have been built at the time of domination by the Order of Montesa to protect the population of Vila Cerrada, were part of the old medieval wall that surrounded the town until the end of the 18th century. You can see the great height of the construction and the use of battlements or small pillars that allowed the defense of the villagers. Its construction is based on stone walls stranded with clay paste. The presence of a singular architectural element stands out: a room that protrudes from the wall and that served to meet the physical needs of the neighborhood of the houses that adjoined the wall. The passage of time has caused the old wall to have deteriorated or added to the adjoining houses.
The Prison Tower is the most significant element of the medieval wall of Atzeneta del Maestrat.
